Health care on Åland
Ålands Hälso och sjukvård (ÅHS) is in charge of public health care in Åland. It offers medical care to both the local population and visitors. This includes everything from preventive care to specialised hospital care.
If you are insured in an EU country, you are entitled to medical treatment during a temporary stay in another EU/EEA country if you can prove this with your European health insurance card. You are then entitled to treatment under the same financial conditions as the locals in Åland and you will pay the same charges as the islands’ own inhabitants.
Non-EU residents should make sure they travel with travel insurance.
