Play golf at the Åland golf courses
Åland is a well-known and popular golf destination on the Baltic Sea. You can get here quickly and easily by boat, and the relaxing sea crossing is an enjoyable part of the experience. There are several golf courses of high standard – and all the challenges a golfer could wish for.
Two golf establishments, three courses
In Åland you can play at two golf establishments – Ålands Golfklubb in Kastelholm in central Åland or Eckerö Golf in western Åland.
The Ålands Golfklubb golf resort in Kastelholm is one of the most attractive golf resorts in Finland with several topp positions on the ranking list over Finnish golf courses. It offers two 18-hole courses and one 6-hole course.
At Eckerö Golf you can play on one 18-hole course and practice your skills at a driving range.
The golf season runs from early May to the end of October. The mild winters contribute to the golf courses being ready to be played from the very beginning of spring. Thanks to the sea which warms Åland late in the autumn, the greens keep in good condition for much longer than in the neighbouring mainland areas.
The third best course in Finland
Efforts to further develop Åland as a top golf destination are constantly ongoing. The 18-hole course Slottsbanan at Ålands Golfklubb was renovated and opened for golfers in 2020. It’s now a modern top course that provides exciting challenges in a historically rich environment.
Ever since the renovation, the completely re-designed Slottsbanan has gained a huge success, and it has already been hailed as a future top course among European golfers. That’s no wonder, since it was named the best designed and the second most beautiful course in Finland. In the total ranking of Finnish courses, Slottsbanan climbed straight to the third place.
Eckerö Golf, on the other hand, has constructed a new practice area for short-range practice. The 18-hole course in Eckerö is suitable for beginners and experienced golfers and runs partly in an open landscape and partly in a forest.
Short distances
Getting from one golf resort to another is easy. Thanks to the short distances in Åland, you can combine golf at both the golf courses during a couple of days’ stay.
It's no problem at all to play at Eckerö Golf one day and at Åland Golf Club in Kastelholm, Sund the next. If you only stay over one day, you can even play in Eckerö in the morning and in Kastelholm the same afternoon.
It takes only 30 minutes by car from Mariehamn to Eckerö and roughly 20 minutes from Mariehamn to Kastelholm. The journey between the courses in Eckerö and Kastelholm takes about 30 minutes by car.
Bring the family with you
Åland is a perfect destination if you want to bring your family or friends. Åland offers activities for all ages so that anyone not wanting to be out on the golf course will find plenty of other activities to enjoy.
How about playing minigolf in the exciting park Äventyrsgolfen (Adventure Golf) in Mariehamn? Another pit stop for families with children, a family entertainment park Smart Park, lies right next to Eckerö Golf.

Après-golf
Restaurants in Åland know how to satisfy a golfer after a long day out on the golf course. Visit one of Åland’s restaurants and enjoy après-golf with some delicious dishes made with excellent local raw products.
The restaurant at Åland Golf club is managed by Åland’s own star chef Michael Björklund, once named the chef of the year both in Finland and in Sweden. At Pub Stallhagen restaurant by the brewery Stallhagen in Finström, a 10 minutes drive from Kastelholm, you can enjoy traditional home cooked food made from the season’s ingredients and what’s more, drinks from the brewery.In Eckerö, there are several restaurants to choose from as well. Gastropub Bodegan is located on a dock, surrounded by the old boat houses in the picturesque Käringsund. At the restaurant at Käringsund Resort & Conference you can enjoy a great meal and the marvellous view over the whole Käringsund area on their wide terrace.
