Annual Music Events in August
Katrina Chamber Music Festival

For over 25 years, the cultural association Katrina has been dedicated to developing and professionalising the music scene on Åland. Today, its flagship event is the Katrina Chamber Music Festival, held each August and built around a new theme every year.
Each edition features multiple concerts at a variety of venues – from Åland’s oldest stone church in Jomala to the cosy Bagarstugan Café & Vin and the modern Alandica Culture and Congress Centre in Mariehamn.
The festival also offers free concerts and chances to meet both musicians and composers.
Åland Sea Jazz

Part of the Archipelago Sea Jazz series, Åland Sea Jazz brings intimate, atmospheric performances to maritime Mariehamn over one special weekend in August.
Concerts are held in unique locations such as the Seafarers’ Chapel, the iconic white beacon on Kobba Klintar island, and the stylish Alandica centre in the heart of Mariehamn.
With a focus on top-quality Nordic jazz in a sleek, refined setting, the festival is a highlight of the summer. And when the last note fades, the night continues with laid-back jam sessions at Restaurant Compagniet at Hotel Arkipelag.
Åland Opera Festival

The Åland Opera Festival invites world-renowned performers and some of today’s most celebrated vocal talents – many of whom have graced international stages.
Together with Åland-based singers, they present full evenings of opera, operetta and romantic song, accompanied by a symphony orchestra.
In recent years, the festival has taken place at the medieval Kastelholm Castle, a setting that adds mystery and magic to the late-summer atmosphere. The programme features iconic 20th-century vocal works as well as pieces by contemporary Finland-Swedish composers.
More Music to Enjoy in Late Summer
Allsång på Åland – Community Singalong
If you love to sing, you’ll feel right at home at Åland singalong. Join fellow music lovers in a warm, welcoming atmosphere where music brings people together on a late-summer evening.
Each year, the event takes place in a different location around the archipelago. Last year at the tall ship Pommern, and, in 2025, at Restaurant Seagram on the island of Föglö.
Kokong Festival

Are you into electronic, ambient or experimental dance music? This small-scale, creative festival shines a light on local talent while welcoming international acts for unique encounters and soundscapes.
The festival takes its name from its venue – the dome beside Pub Stallhagen. With transparent walls and a cocoon-like structure, it offers a one-of-a-kind setting for two unforgettable August nights of music and movement.
Summer Dance at Lolo’s
As the summer warmth lingers, it’s time to head to the jetty at Lolo’s Seaside Café in Geta for an evening of dancing by the water.
Local dance band Conny Henrix provides the rhythm, while you enjoy good food from the restaurant and watch the sun go down in true Åland style.
More Musical Events in Autumn
Just because August comes to an end doesn’t mean the music stops. Åland’s musical season continues well into the autumn, with more exciting events lined up in September and beyond.
