Play golf at the Åland golf courses
Åland is a well-established golf destination in the Baltic Sea. The relaxing sea crossing on a modern cruise ferry is an enjoyable part of the experience. There are two golf clubs and three courses, including Slottsbanan – recently ranked among the best courses in Finland.
Two golf clubs, three courses
In Åland, you can play at two golf clubs – Ålands Golfklubb in Kastelholm and Eckerö Golf in Eckerö.
The Ålands Golfklubb golf resort offers two 18-hole courses and one 6-hole course. The gem of the club, Slottsbanan, was recently ranked as one of the top courses in Finland, and, what’s more, it’s also highly ranked in Europe. At Eckerö Golf, you can play on one 18-hole course and practise your skills at a driving range.
Golf from May to October
The golf season in Åland is long compared to neighbouring regions – it extends from early May to the end of October. The favourable winters contribute to the golf courses being ready to be played from the very beginning of spring, usually from the beginning of May – some years even earlier. Thanks to the sea, the climate is mild in the autumn, which helps the greens remain in good condition for much longer than in neighbouring areas.
A Nordic top course
Efforts to further develop Åland as a top golf destination are constantly ongoing. When the 18-hole Slottsbanan course at Ålands Golfklubb was renovated and opened for golfers in 2020, it immediately gained international success.
In 2023, Slottsbanan was ranked the best course in Finland. Two years later, it was voted the best for design and playability. It’s a modern course that provides exciting experiences in a historically rich environment.
The club's other 18-hole course Kungsbanan has a more playful character and the two courses nicely supplement one another. Also Kungsbanan counts as one of the top courses in Finland.
The 18-hole course at Eckerö Golf is suitable for both beginners and more experienced golfers. It runs partly in an open landscape, partly in a forest, and provides a large practice area as well.
Short distances
Getting from one golf resort to another is easy. Thanks to the short distances in Åland, you can combine golf at both the golf courses during a couple of days’ stay.
It's no problem at all to play at Eckerö Golf one day and at Åland Golf Club in Kastelholm the next. If you only stay over one day, you can even play in Eckerö in the morning and in Kastelholm the same afternoon.
It takes 30 minutes by car from Mariehamn to Eckerö Golf and roughly 20 minutes from Mariehamn to Ålands Golfklubb. It takes about 40 minutes by car from Eckerö to Kastelholm.

Åland is perfect for golfers who want to bring their family and friends on holiday. Åland offers activities for people of all ages and a wide range of interests from culture to history and culinary experiences to outdoor life. In addition to golf, there are plenty of activities to explore.
