Diving

Shipwreck diving in the sea surrounding Åland takes you on an exciting journey back in time. Here the diving is unique – nowhere else in the world are the shipwrecks as large and well preserved as here.

This is thanks to the low salt and oxygen levels in the Baltic Sea combined with strict legislation on diving. All diving within Åland’s territorial waters requires a permit issued by the Government of Åland.

If you’re interested in a diving excursion in the archipelago, the easiest way is to contact a professional dive guide. The guide will arrange all the necessary permits for you – all you need to bring is your valid dive certificate and logbook.

Åland’s diving season begins in late March or early April, depending on the ice conditions, and lasts until mid-December.
