Mariehamn is a busy small town where most of the shopping is within reasonable walking distance in the town centre.
In the area around Torggatan you’ll find many small shops with much to discover. A shopping spree along the cobblestone pedestrian street offers everything from clothes and home decorations to books and art handicrafts.
Handicrafts from Åland
The art handicraft tradition is really alive in Åland. The artisans combine old handicraft techniques with new creativity. In the handicraft shops you’ll find art of living and natural material such as wood, textiles, wool, leather, metal, glass and clay.
Handicrafts from Åland are mostly found in the shops in Mariehamn and at Salt in the Maritime Quarter which is a must for all visitors. In the countryside you can also visit the artisans’ studios and shops, for example Judy’s charming pottery and crafts shop in Sviby in Jomala.
