Memorial exhibition for Tage Wilén

Varmt välkommen på en vernissage för utställningen som presenterar verk från olika delar av Tage Wiléns mer än femtio år långa konstnärskap.

Both monumental and smaller works are on display here. Several of them have not been available to the public for many years.

The exhibition shows the breadth of Wilén’s artistry, from early depictions of people and environments in Åland to later, more existential works about peace, love, faith, suffering and man’s relationship to nature. By showing monumental works together with smaller works, it is also possible to see how he worked with color, composition and recurring motives. Together, the works provide a comprehensive picture of a well-known artistry that has rarely been shown to this extent.

Tage Wilén was born in 1941, educated in Stockholm and was active as an artist in Åland from 1969 until his death in 2024. He had his public breakthrough with the monumental paintings in the Self-Government House and also worked with graphics and wood reliefs. With exhibitions in several Nordic countries, his artistry has an obvious place in Galleri NORDEN. The art is rooted in Åland, but deals with issues that extend beyond its own place and time.

The exhibition has been made possible with co-funding from the Åland Cultural Delegation and the Swedish Cultural Foundation.
