Tarabband joins NIPÅ with a concert at Alandica that unites musical traditions from the Middle East and the Nordic countries in an expression that is both personal and universal. Tarabband was formed in Malmö in 2008 by the Iraqi-Egyptian singer Nadin Al Khalidi and the Swedish musician Gabriel Hermansson. The band’s name is a play on the words tarab and band. Tarab is an Arabic term that describes the strong feeling that arises when music and emotions merge.

With roots in Malmö and inspiration from the Mediterranean, Cairo and Baghdad, Tarabband creates its own musical landscape where Arab and Western influences meet. At the center are Nadin Al Khalidi’s powerful stories about identity, belonging, love, survival and hope. As a refugee from Iraq, she brings with her experiences that give the music both depth and urgency.

The lyrics weave together personal stories with questions about peace, tolerance and human encounters. The result is music that touches across language and cultural boundaries and creates recognition among audiences with different backgrounds.

A concert with Tarabband is a strong musical experience where stories, rhythms and emotions meet in a unique combination of Arabic folk music, world music and modern influences.

On the same day, two special performances of 45 minutes each for school classes will be given through kulturkraft.ax.
