In the summer of 2026, the Archipelago Theatre will go on tour with a story that moves, touches and entertains.

The year is 1958. In a small Finnish-Swedish town, the town’s only dance band gathers every Wednesday in the community center to rehearse. During the weekends, they play popular hits from around the region. They call themselves Sven Klangs Kvintett, even though there are only four of them.

Car dealer and bassist Sven rules the band with an iron fist. Pianist Rofa is a carefree high school student who plays everything you ask for with talent. Drummer Kenni works in the factory and is happy to be part of it. And the “beauty from Ekeby”, the solo singer Gunnel, who sits in a telephone switchboard during the day, makes the guys lose both their breath and their rhythm.

So one day Sven brings in a new member, saxophonist Lasse, who is serving his military service in the garrison band. He is from the big city and has played with jazz greats in Stockholm. Lasse is a musical genius who aims high, which also makes the younger members of the band dare to dream higher than Sven’s talk of “hug-friendly songs that make everyone happy and content”. Everything quickly comes to a head and an open conflict between Lasse and Sven is inevitable.

The performance is filled with live music – from schlager and swing to dixie and bebop.
