DE söderVISA live at Arken Rock & Blues Weekend

Here’s a band that has chosen to play much of the best and most beloved material written by Cornelis Vreeswijk. Since September 1994, DE söderVISA, based in Stockholm, has followed its own path through Cornelis’s songs – 2% ballads and 98% dirty jazz & blues.

Cornelis Vreeswijk (1937–1987) is one of Sweden’s most beloved and influential singer-songwriters. Born in the Netherlands but raised and established in Sweden, Vreeswijk brought together Swedish folk song, jazz, blues, samba and sharp social commentary in a style that was uniquely his own. His songs have become deeply rooted in Swedish culture, and many remain part of Sweden’s shared musical heritage.

DE söderVISA takes this legacy and brings it to the stage with an uncompromising style of its own. An evening with the band can include tender songs, bloodthirsty samba, humour, direct audience interaction and the kind of arrangements that only happen when a band truly loves being on stage.

Cornelis is at the heart of it all, but the interpretations are always the band’s own. That is why audiences keep coming back, organisers book them again, and the concerts continue to feel like an event rather than simply another gig.
