Entertainment for every taste
The Åland Islands are brimming with entertainment and exciting activities, and there’s surely something suitable for every taste. Most of the activities are on during the summer as the archipelago fills up with visitors and the locals are enjoying their vacations. But if you visit Åland in the off-season, you’ll be surprised at all the things you can take part in.
Theater, music and film
The Alandica Culture- and congress center in Mariehamn is a popular scene for both concerts and other forms of cultural shows and they present both local as well as foreign artists and groups. At Alandica you can experience everything from music, dance, ballet all the way to stand-up comedy.
Åland’s only cinema Bio Savoy, located in Mariehamn, offers screenings of contemporary movies that you can also catch in Finland and Sweden. There are up to two or three movie screenings per night in the cinema’s two separate salons. Bio Savoy was built in 1939, but was refurbished thoroughly in 2011. Despite the modern technology which the cinema now houses, you can still feel that genuine atmosphere of old-time cinemas within the building. The movies shown have Swedish and Finnish subtitles.
Although there is no traditional theater-venue in Åland, you can still find several amateur-groups all around the island. These groups arrange performances in e.g. Mariehamn’s town hall or at the open-air scene in the Badhusparken-park in Mariehamn, as well as Stalldalen in Finström. Every now and then professional theater groups also visit Åland.

Fun with the gang
In Vessingsboda, Lemland you can have a blast on a go-kart track. Up to six people can compete on the track at a time while the others get to cheer from the sidelines. Book a time, head out, put on your helmet and get the engines started. No further preparations or equipment is required.
Eckerö has a curling center where you can challenge friends, family or coworkers to a game of curling and see which team gets closer to the button. One round takes approximately a couple of hours, and afterwards you can spend time together and rehash the game over a drink and some snacks at the bar on the upper floor. You can also have dinner at the curling center, but remember to book it in advance.
At the Idrottsgården sports center in Mariehamn you can find a bowlinghall with neat lanes and a café. On Fridays and Saturdays it’s time for disco-bowling with music and neon lights.
At the Mariebad bathhouse you get to relax in saunas and baths. Groups can even book the private spa-area on Mariebad’s upper floor. The spa-area offers a sauna, steam-sauna and jacuzzi and a lounge where you can hang out and relax. After bathing you can find Mariehamn’s restaurants and nightlife a stone’s throw away where the fun can continue.
Games and excitement
Spark Laser Arena in Eckerö is a fun activity for kids and adults alike. Here anyone who is at least 7 years old is welcome to participate in a fast-paced game of laser-tag. There are around 20 different gaming options to choose from.
If you like to challenge yourself and spend time outside in the woods as well, you’ll surely come to like the adventure-park Flow Park in Vårdö. Here you can climb up high and balance on tightrope among the treetops and ride a cableway. Flow Park is suitable for adventure-seekers of every age, and is open from spring until autumn. Make sure to book your visit a couple of days beforehand.
At Ålands Golf- and Skyttehall you can master your aim with the help of a golf- and shooting simulator even during off-season. This activity is usually greatly appreciated by teenagers.
During the summer you can in addition to golf also play minigolf at various spots around Åland. Äventyrsgolfen in Mariehamn is a fun minigolf-park where you can challenge friends and family on two different 9-hole courses. The Äventyrsgolfen is a sight to see especially in the evening when all of its lights shine at their brightest. You can also play minigolf at Käringsund in Eckerö, restaurant Soltuna in Geta, Gröna Uddens camping in Mariehamn and Debergy in Föglö.
Nightlife and restaurants
In Mariehamn you’ll find the island’s bustling nightlife centered. The compact city means you’re always close to excitement and entertainment. The restaurants are open all year round and during the summer many of them open outdoor terraces. There are several places to choose from, and the restaurants are located close to each other so that you can try out several options in one night.
The restaurants in Hotel Arkipelag are some of the top places in the city for getting together with friends to enjoy the nightlife. Not only can you find a restaurant, but also a party floor and a nightclub. In the hotel’s restaurant Compagniet you can enjoy dinner, have a drink and play different games together such as boules, billiards and shuffleboard. The party floor and bar in Hotel Arkipelag’s upper floor was completely renovated and reopened in the summer of 2021.
If you’re headed out with friends for a drink you can visit e.g. the nightclub Kino, Indigo’s upper floor or the pub at hotel Park Alandia. If you’re into rock-music you’ll enjoy Pub Ettan and Dinos.
